Today I encourage you to sit down, open a book or a magazine, and enjoy an extra cup of coffee — perhaps with a slice of pie. Why? Well, this time of year marks the amount of time into the new year a woman has to work (on top of all of last year) to earn what men made in the last calendar year alone.
And a CNBC / Survey Monkey Women at Work Survey found “fewer women secured pay raises over the last year compared to the previous 12 months.”
Joy.
But there is always a silver lining somewhere, so let’s focus on that!
Mothers with young children are working more than ever, as this Bankrate article where I’m quoted notes.
Women’s labor force participation rate is extremely high — 57.6%.
The job market continues to remain strong, adding 275,000 jobs in February, marking 38 months of job gains. The sectors fueling job growth are Education and Health, Leisure and Hospitality, Government, Construction, Business Services and Retail.
Last month we looked at recent government data that shows jobs mainly held by women.
Employers are hiring — 9 million jobs to apply for out there.
Flexibility remains a top driver of retention of women at work
The shift to permanent hybrid/remote work structures has been largely good for women, particularly those with college degrees.
Many of the employers hiring via Après embrace the hybrid/remote model, so let’s embrace them by applying and sharing these roles! Current list below…
We celebrate women all year round at Après, but it’s nice to have a month on the calendar where it’s OK to really brag about women’s accomplishments. Take a cue from Rent the Runway - giving away $1 million in subscriptions, and shout out your wins!
IT IS YOUR TURN! 👏
