How to Restart after Rejection
It is YOUR TURN

Hi everyone,
Wanted to share a thrilling personal moment — my byline back on MarketWatch, my career home for many years and the precursor to Après.
Fun story - when I applied to MKTW years ago, I applied via… Craigslist!! Who here remembers Craigslist? Raise your hands!
It was a blind application - I didn’t know anyone and was determined to work in a newsroom in a broadcast capacity, in a large market. I’m forever grateful to one of the editors for finding my resume in that application pile, hiring me, and giving me that chance. When I left, a passion for helping women navigate careers and career breaks was calling, so it’s beyond fulfilling to be writing for the team again, bringing my new learnings and experience to this amazing news platform.
There are a few lessons to share from this moment:
When you leave a job, you carry your skills with you. I may have strayed from the newsroom, but the instincts and skills I learned are still very much with me and now applied in a new direction.
The only reason I can share this column with you is because I reached out to old colleagues and asked if I could write for them. It’s deeply meaningful to me that they said yes, but also a testament to our shared work experience. Good news — old connections can still be quickly be made fresh.
Writing this column helped me get unstuck. The material is familiar, but writing for a different platform provided a new lens to share my knowledge. It reminded me of the tennis moment a few years ago.
And good news, this is the first in a series about How to Restart Your Career After… I started with rejection because it’s such an unfortunate and challenging reality of so many job searches, and one many of my coaching clients are experiencing when they reach out to me. In this column, you’ll discover five ways to reset and move forward.
xo, Stacey
